On the same day (local time), when the news of 'Parasite' winning the prestigious Best Picture award at the 92nd Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, USA, was announced, President Moon posted on his Facebook, saying, "I am proud of Director Bong Joon-ho, the actors, and the staff," and added, "I especially thank the people who are overcoming difficulties together, as this gives them pride and courage."
President Moon said, "'Parasite' moved the hearts of people worldwide with the most Korean story, proving its capabilities to the world through unique and detailed direction, sharp dialogue, screenplay, editing, music, art, and the actors' performances," and evaluated, "Winning the 'Palme d'Or' at last year's Cannes Film Festival followed by the 'four Academy Awards' is the accumulated result of the efforts of everyone who has made Korean cinema over the past 100 years." He added, "I am very pleased that Korean cinema is starting a new 100 years by standing shoulder to shoulder with world cinema."
Furthermore, he said, "'Parasite' is delightful yet sad, new and excellent in terms of social messages, and successful," adding, "It makes us rethink the emotion and power that a single film can give. The government will also work together so that our filmmakers can freely express their imagination and produce films without worries."
President Moon concluded his post by saying, "I am already curious about Director Bong, the actors, and the staff's 'next plans,'" and "Once again, congratulations on the award, and I will always support you together with the people."
