[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Yeonju Kim] Korean-Canadian actress Sandra Oh showed a special reaction to the film 'Parasite' winning at the Academy Awards.
On the 9th (local time), at the 92nd Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, the film 'Parasite' won four awards including Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature Film, Best Director, and Best Picture.
When 'Parasite' was announced as the winner of the Best Original Screenplay, Sandra Oh stood up and stomped her feet, unable to hide her joy. This was in contrast to the quiet applause from surrounding foreign actors.
Sandra Oh also congratulated 'Parasite' on her social networking service (SNS).
On the 10th, Sandra Oh posted on her Twitter, "Congratulations on Parasite's win," and added, "I am so proud to be Korean."
Sandra Oh, a Korean-descendant actress, won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a TV Drama last year for the American ABC drama 'Grey's Anatomy.' At the Golden Globe Awards, she also gave a Korean acceptance speech saying, "Mom and Dad, I love you."
Meanwhile, 'Parasite' is the first Korean film and the first Asian writer to win at the Academy Awards.
Director Bong Joon-ho said in his acceptance speech for Best Original Screenplay, "Writing a screenplay is a lonely and solitary task. I am not writing on behalf of a country, but this award is the first Oscar that Korea has received."
Co-writer Han Jin-won said, "Just as Hollywood exists in the United States, there is Chungmuro in Korea. I want to share this honor with all the filmmakers and storytellers of Chungmuro, which is my heart."
