[Asia Economy Reporter Jonggil Lee] Laura Dern from "Marriage Story" won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. On the 9th (local time), at the 92nd Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, Dern won the honor, beating out Kathy Bates from "Richard Jewell," Scarlett Johansson from "Jojo Rabbit," Florence Pugh from "Little Women," and Margot Robbie from "Bombshell."

In this film, Dern played Nora Fanshaw, a lawyer who helps Nicole (Scarlett Johansson), who has decided to divorce Charlie (Adam Driver). She delivered straightforward and realistic lines with great flavor, sweeping the awards in this category at multiple film festivals including the Golden Globes.

She said, "I am grateful to my children who gave me special love. If parents are their own heroes, that is truly a blessing," and added, "I want to thank my beloved parents."
