[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that it will nurture 'Citizen Gardeners' who will professionally manage small village gardens located throughout the region.
The county aims to train 100 citizen gardeners in a total of three sessions from this year through 2022.
Currently, in Jangseong-gun, about 140 small gardens and street flower beds have been created, cultivated directly by residents using leftover land that had been neglected in the villages.
Accordingly, Jangseong-gun decided to provide systematic education on garden management to support residents in more actively creating village gardens.
This year's Citizen Gardener training is scheduled to be held 23 times in total, 3 to 4 times per month starting from the 6th of next month, with lectures entrusted to current gardening experts.
Recruitment for trainees will be from the 10th to the 26th, with a capacity of 35 people. Any resident of Jangseong aged 69 or younger can apply. Jangseong-gun plans to select trainees through interviews, prioritizing residents with patriotism and a spirit of volunteerism.
