[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Ministry of Justice announced on the 9th that it has restricted the entry of nearly 500 people into the country over the past five days to block the influx of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia).
According to the Ministry of Justice, from the 4th to the 8th, the period during which the entry restriction measures were implemented, 499 people who were trying to enter the country from China were blocked at the local boarding stage.
There have been no cases of entry refusal at domestic airport and port immigration inspection stages so far. The Ministry of Justice explained that this is because passengers are pre-checked at the local ticketing stage and thorough blocking is carried out during airline ticket issuance. Currently, all passengers departing from China undergo a ‘special entry procedure’ that includes fever checks, confirmation of visits to Hubei Province, and contact information verification.
The Ministry of Justice also explained that compared to January 10th, when 18,856 Chinese nationals entered the country, the number of entrants on the 8th of this month was 3,571, a decrease of about 81%.
A Ministry of Justice official stated, "We will continue to do our best to thoroughly block those subject to entry restrictions from the local ticketing stage onward to prevent the domestic influx of the novel coronavirus."
