On the 8th, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a Japanese man in his 60s, who was hospitalized and receiving treatment for pneumonia symptoms in Wuhan, Hubei Province, the origin of the novel coronavirus, had died.
According to Kyodo News, the deceased, who was staying in Wuhan, was admitted to a local hospital on the 22nd of last month, six days after developing a fever. At that time, the Japanese Embassy in China announced that the man had severe pneumonia.
The hospital notified the Japanese Embassy on the 28th of last month that there was a high possibility of novel coronavirus infection. It is known that a final confirmation through retesting was not conducted. If it is confirmed that this man died from novel coronavirus infection, it will be the first death case among Japanese nationals.
