[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will build a new "Municipal Waste Treatment Facility" (Seongnam Incineration Plant) in Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu, with a daily processing capacity of 500 tons.
Seongnam City announced on the 6th that the existing Seongnam Incineration Plant, which has been operating since 1998 with a capacity of 600 tons, has aged over 22 years, and they have decided to build a replacement facility with an investment of 177.3 billion KRW.
The newly constructed incineration plant was decided to have a capacity of 500 tons, considering municipal waste and future generation amounts. The construction site is right next to the current Seongnam Incineration Plant. The target completion date is 2024.
The city will also build convenience facilities desired by residents within the new incineration plant site. A fine dust notification electronic display board will also be installed. Construction will begin at the end of next year after administrative procedures such as the Ministry of Economy and Finance's Private Investment Project Review Committee are completed.
The city plans to demolish the old Seongnam Incineration Plant along with the construction of the new incineration plant.
A city official explained, "Until the new incineration plant is built, the Seongnam Incineration Plant will operate in compliance with legal standards, including maintenance guidelines for the durability of each facility and the allowable emission standard for dioxins of 0.1 ng (nanograms) or less."
