[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI) has partnered with LG Uplus to realize the ‘Smart Hydrogen Drone.’

DMI and LG Uplus announced on the 2nd that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 30th of last month at LG Science Park in Magok-dong, Seoul, to promote the hydrogen drone business.

Through this agreement, the two companies will develop a ‘Smart Hydrogen Drone’ solution by equipping hydrogen fuel cell drones capable of flying for more than two hours with LTE and 5G communication functions.

The hydrogen fuel cell drone developed by DMI is characterized by extending the drone flight time from the existing 20 to 30 minutes to up to two hours.

Additionally, LG Uplus has established a ‘Smart Drone Control Service’ that remotely manages drone status information, flight plans, flight routes, and mission execution, as well as a ‘Smart Drone Video Service’ that transmits videos and photos captured by drones in real time.

Lee Doo-soon, CEO of DMI, explained, “Hydrogen drones capable of long-duration flights will be reborn as smart hydrogen drones by meeting next-generation network communications,” adding, “We will provide an innovative platform that enhances customer business value through the realization of smart hydrogen drones.”

Meanwhile, earlier this year, DMI participated in CES 2020, the world’s largest IT and electronics exhibition, where it won the Best Innovation Award and Innovation Award for its hydrogen fuel cell drone products. DMI also plans to develop drone solutions utilizing digital technologies such as cloud platforms and AI in collaboration with global IT company Microsoft.
