Seungri Indicted Without Detention on Charges Including 'Procuring Prostitution and Habitual Gambling'

Trial of 11 Key Suspects Including Choi Jong-hoon in the Burning Sun Case Begins

Seungri Indicted Without Detention on Charges Including 'Procuring Prostitution and Habitual Gambling' Former Big Bang member Seungri, who is accused of overseas gambling involving billions of won and arranging prostitution, is leaving the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, after attending a pre-arrest detention hearing on the afternoon of the 13th.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Singer Seungri (29, real name Lee Seung-hyun), who has been under investigation in connection with the Burning Sun club incident, has been indicted on charges including overseas gambling and mediation of prostitution.


The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Criminal Division 3 on the 30th indicted Seungri without detention on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Acts of Arranging Sexual Traffic, habitual gambling, and violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act. Additionally, singer Choi Jong-hoon was indicted without detention on charges including expressing intent to offer a bribe, and a total of 11 key suspects in the 'Burning Sun incident' were sent to trial. The prosecution also requested summary orders for four others, including singer Jung Joon-young. The habitual gambling allegations against Yang Hyun-suk, former CEO of YG Entertainment, were transferred to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office, which has jurisdiction, for continued investigation.


Seungri is accused of repeatedly arranging prostitution for foreign investors. He is suspected of providing sexual entertainment at a Christmas party organized for Japanese investors in 2015. He is also charged with habitual overseas gambling involving billions of won in places such as Las Vegas, USA. In this process, he was also charged with procuring gambling funds through 'hwan-chigi' (violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act).
