Confirmed Cases of 'Wuhan Pneumonia' Surpass SARS... Over 6,000 Reported

[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) has far surpassed that of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003.

According to China Central Television (CCTV) and others, as of 6 p.m. on the 29th, the number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases across China is 6,078, with 132 deaths.

This figure includes Hong Kong (8 cases), Macau (7 cases), and Taiwan (8 cases), which China considers part of its territory. Counting only confirmed cases within mainland China, the number is 6,055.

Earlier, the National Health Commission announced that as of midnight that day, the number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the mainland was 5,974, with 132 deaths, marking an increase of 1,459 confirmed cases and 26 deaths in just one day.

The rate of increase in confirmed cases is faster than during SARS. At that time, there were about 5,300 confirmed cases and around 340 deaths in mainland China.
