Berlin Film Festival: "Kim Min-hee Still Appears in Films as the Director's Muse"
Director Hong Sangsoo's new film has been officially invited to the competition section of the Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held from February 20 to March 1. On the 28th (local time), the Berlin International Film Festival held an official press conference and announced eighteen films competing in the competition section, including Hong's "The Woman Who Ran."
"The Woman Who Ran" is Hong's twenty-fourth feature film. The production and distribution company, Jeonwonsa Film, stated, "The story follows a wife who, after her husband?whom she has never been apart from since their marriage?leaves on a business trip, meets past friends through two scheduled meetings and one chance encounter." The cast includes Kim Minhee, Song Sunmi, Seo Younghwa, Kim Saebyeok, and Kwon Hae-hyo. It will be released domestically this spring.
Karlovy Chartarian, the artistic director of the Berlin International Film Festival, said, "Hong Sangsoo is entering the competition section for the fourth time," and introduced, "Kim Minhee still appears as the director's muse in the film." He added, "It is a work about the human condition, discussing existence and living by showing how we communicate. It is charming and like a mysterious gem. It suggests once again that infinite worlds are possible."
Director Hong previously entered the competition section of this festival with "Night and Day" (2007), "Nobody's Daughter Haewon" (2012), and "On the Beach at Night Alone" (2016). Kim Minhee, who starred in "On the Beach at Night Alone," was the first Korean actress to win the Best Actress award. After first collaborating with Hong in "Right Now, Wrong Then" (2015), she appeared consecutively in "The Day After" (2017), "Claire's Camera" (2018), "Grass" (2018), and "Hotel by the River" (2019). The two acknowledged their affair at the time of the release of "On the Beach at Night Alone."
