Hong Sangsoo's 'The Woman Who Ran' Advances to Berlin Film Festival Competition Section


Director Hong Sangsoo's new film has been officially invited to the competition section of the Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held from February 20 to March 1. On the 28th (local time), the Berlin International Film Festival held an official press conference and announced eighteen films competing in the competition section, including Hong's "The Woman Who Ran."


"The Woman Who Ran" is Hong's twenty-fourth feature film. It stars Kim Minhee, his partner, along with Song Seonmi and Seo Younghwa. Carlo Chatrian, the artistic director of the Berlin International Film Festival, introduced, "Hong Sangsoo is entering the competition section for the fourth time," and added, "Kim Minhee still appears in his films as his muse."


Director Hong previously entered the competition section of this festival with "Night and Day" (2007), "Nobody's Daughter Haewon" (2012), and "On the Beach at Night Alone" (2016). Kim Minhee, who starred in "On the Beach at Night Alone," was the first Korean actress to win the Best Actress award. After first collaborating with Hong on "Right Now, Wrong Then" (2015), she consecutively appeared in "The Day After" (2017), "Claire's Camera" (2018), "Grass" (2018), and "Hotel by the River" (2019). The two admitted to their affair at the time of the release of "On the Beach at Night Alone."
