Yeosu City Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters Activated, Medical Institution Officials Hold Countermeasure Meeting on the Afternoon of the 28th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, has recently activated a quarantine countermeasure headquarters led by the vice mayor on the 27th and launched an all-out response as the national infectious disease alert was raised to the "caution" level due to the novel coronavirus outbreak originating in China that is rapidly spreading worldwide.
According to Yeosu City on the 29th, the quarantine countermeasure headquarters is composed of four teams?General, Epidemiological Investigation, Surveillance & Public Relations, and Contact Management?with 16 members maintaining a 24-hour response system for infectious disease occurrence monitoring, epidemiological investigation, and contact monitoring.
Prior to the Lunar New Year holiday on the 23rd, screening clinics equipped with air tents and mobile negative pressure devices were installed at two locations: the Public Health Center and Yeocheon Jeonnam Hospital. Level D medical protective suits were distributed to Yeosu Jeonnam Hospital, Jeil Hospital, and Korea Hospital.
On the afternoon of the 28th, Vice Mayor Seo Eun-su presided over a countermeasure meeting with local medical institution officials, ordering thorough verification of patients' travel history through patient screening procedures (DUR, medical questionnaires), enhanced infection control education for staff, environmental disinfection, and restrictions on caregivers and visitors to strengthen infection control in medical institutions.
Yeosu City plans to strengthen monitoring in cooperation with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and Jeollanam-do, and establish a cooperative system with Yeosu Airport and the National Yeosu Quarantine Station to enhance preparedness against the novel coronavirus.
Additionally, the city will intensify preventive activities such as distributing hand sanitizers at various event venues, village senior centers, and daycare centers within the jurisdiction to do its utmost to block the spread of the novel coronavirus infection in the local community.
A Public Health Center official stated, "Citizens are advised to refrain from traveling to China, and if symptoms of novel coronavirus infection such as fever, cough, or respiratory symptoms occur within 14 days after traveling to China, please do not visit medical institutions but immediately report to the Yeosu City Public Health Center or the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency."
