'Short Holidays but Going Abroad'... Wemakeprice Tour Sees 55% Increase in Overseas Flight Bookings

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] As traditional holidays have shifted to a vacation concept, the number of travelers going abroad even during short holidays has increased. Wemakeprice announced on the 29th that, after analyzing sales data of the Lunar New Year holiday from the 24th to the 27th, sales of leisure products such as international flight tickets and performance tickets all increased compared to last year's Lunar New Year.

First, according to Wemakeprice Tour, the number of international flight ticket reservations departing during the Lunar New Year holiday increased by 55%. This is unusual considering that the Lunar New Year holiday was one day shorter than last year. As for travel destinations, Southeast Asia, which can be visited within a short period, was the trend. The top 5 popular destinations were Cebu in the Philippines, Da Nang in Vietnam, Guam (U.S. territory), Nha Trang in Vietnam, and Bangkok in Thailand, in that order. In particular, reservations for flights to Nha Trang, Vietnam surged by 692% compared to last year's Lunar New Year. Relatively closer regions such as China and Japan were absent from the rankings.

Sales of tickets for musicals, plays, and concerts increased by 20%. The most sold products were the musical 'The Phantom of the Opera World Tour' in Seoul, the musical 'Aida', and the musical 'The Bodyguard', in that order. Sales of water park, spa, and ski resort tickets also increased by 19% compared to last year's Lunar New Year holiday. A Wemakeprice official said, "More people are simplifying or skipping ancestral rites during holidays and enjoying cultural activities with their families while traveling," adding, "With the establishment of various short-distance international routes, it seems that the number of customers traveling abroad even during short holiday periods like this year's Lunar New Year has increased."
