Recruitment of Nonprofit Private Organizations to Participate in Public Interest Activities

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) actively supports non-profit private organizations that promote public interest projects to address latent resident demands and social issues in the local community.

The district will hold an explanatory meeting for the "2020 Non-Profit Private Organization Public Interest Activity Support Project" on February 3rd at 10 a.m. in Lecture Room 3 of the Lifelong Learning Center at Geumcheon-gu Office, and will conduct a public contest for subsidies for public interest activity projects until February 14th.

The eligible support project areas include seven fields: △ revitalization of village communities △ improvement of urban safety and residents' perception △ expansion of volunteer work and donation culture △ enhancement of social welfare for vulnerable groups △ reduction of household waste △ conservation of nature and environment △ promotion of culture, arts, sports, and tourism.

Applicants must be non-profit private organizations or non-profit corporations whose main purpose is public interest activities, and meet the following criteria: "organizations eligible for subsidies based on laws or ordinances," "organizations whose direct beneficiaries of the project are residents of Geumcheon-gu," "organizations with at least 20 members (Geumcheon-gu residents)," and "organizations able to bear at least 5% of the subsidy amount as self-funding." However, organizations with "social or profit-making purposes," "individuals, companies, political party support groups, religious organizations, or those not considered public interest organizations," and "organizations receiving overlapping support from national or local governments for the same (or similar) projects" are excluded.

Organizations wishing to participate can download the application form from the "Geumcheon News" section on the Geumcheon-gu Office website (www.geumcheon.go.kr) from February 3rd, the day of the explanatory meeting, until February 14th, fill it out, and submit it either in person or by mail to the relevant project department (organization support department).

Whether subsidies will be granted, the scale of support, and the amount will be decided through the Geumcheon-gu Subsidy Review Committee scheduled for March and notified individually.

The non-profit private organization public interest activity support project aims to realize genuine resident participation by supporting capable organizations working for regional development and marginalized groups.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "We will provide equal participation opportunities through the project contest and support fairly and reasonably through the Geumcheon-gu Subsidy Review Committee. For selected organizations, we will ensure transparency in execution through mid-term evaluations and on-site inspections and conduct performance evaluations to actively reflect them in the operation and support of subsidies for the following year."
