[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] The Democratic Party of Korea has launched an investigation into Won Jong-geon, who returned his qualification as a recruited talent amid the 'Me too' controversy.

On the 28th, Hong Ik-pyo, the chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party, stated in a briefing after a high-level strategy meeting at the National Assembly, "The party has a Gender Violence Reporting and Counseling Center, and Kim Mi-soon, the center director who served as the executive representative of the National Sexual Violence Counseling Center Council, is beginning to verify the specific facts," adding, "The party will take measures based on the results."

He continued, "Depending on the facts, the Supreme Council will request a judgment from the Ethics Tribunal," and added, "If Mr. Won withdraws from the party, there is no way to proceed, but if he does not and it is judged that there was wrongdoing, the Ethics Tribunal will make a decision."

Regarding whether Democratic Party leader Lee Hae-chan conveyed a message, he said, "We need to verify the facts," and expressed a cautious stance, saying, "He claims it is not true, and there is a risk that an expression of regret now might have to be repeated later."

Chief spokesperson Hong said, "I do not know all the details of the talent recruitment process. Since who recommended him and how he joined are all handled confidentially, there is nothing I can confirm," adding, "However, we will review whether there were any issues in the process."
