"Must Undergo Thorough Investigation as a Sexual Violence Offender"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 28th, ahead of the April 15 general election, the Party for Democracy and Peace criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for accepting the resignation of Won Jong-geon (27), who was recruited by the Democratic Party and faced 'Me Too' allegations just one day after the controversy surfaced, calling it "truly horrific, disgusting, and devastating" and saying, "We are at a loss for words at his duplicitous attitude."
Hong Seong-mun, spokesperson for the Party for Democracy and Peace, said in a statement that "Won advocated feminism and criticized the male culture in Korean society, but in reality, he committed various sexual crimes and violence against his girlfriend."
He added, "Recruiting a figure expected to cause moral controversy without proper verification, just to attract attention and win the election at all costs, is a step backward for Korean politics," and pointed out, "The Democratic Party, which recruited such a person as a young talent, should offer a sincere apology."
He continued, "This incident, as seen in the case of Won, reveals the ugly and petty true face of the Democratic Party, which is hypocritical, contradictory, and whose words and actions differ," emphasizing, "Strong punishment must be enforced to prevent such atrocities from recurring."
Spokesperson Hong stated, "Won must undergo a thorough investigation as a sexual violence criminal," and "He should not evade responsibility by merely taking moral responsibility such as withdrawing from the election."
Hong also expressed support, saying, "We applaud the victim's courageous disclosure and express our support and solidarity," and added, "Under no circumstances should the victim suffer secondary damage."
