[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation's Nam June Paik Art Center announced on the 28th that it will hold a performance titled "Popup, Guerrilla, Partisan" to commemorate the 14th anniversary of Nam June Paik's passing on the 31st at 4 p.m. in the Black Box on the 2nd floor of the Nam June Paik Art Center.

The 29th marks the 14th anniversary of Nam June Paik's death. Nam June Paik, a pioneer of media art, was an artist who conducted experimental and creative work using technology and is still praised as the most "contemporary" artist. He is known as the father of "video art," which used television and video as artistic media, and he foresaw digital communication involving multi-party interaction and a cybernetically integrated society coexisting with machines, presenting an artistic vision for it.

"Popup, Guerrilla, Partisan" is a work completed through collaboration between the artist group "Mu:p," formed by choreographer Cho Hyung-jun and architect Son Min-seon, along with novelists, geomungo players, and film directors. The Nam June Paik Art Center explained, "This performance explores the exhibition space with unpredictable movements, creating a new space together with the audience," adding, "Through this performance, we aim to revive Nam June Paik's early avant-garde project that created a fluid space between music and architecture."

The Nam June Paik Art Center also plans to publish soon a research anthology titled "Nam June Paik Art Center Collection Highlights." Marking its 12th anniversary this year, the center will introduce 50 representative works from its collection that provide an overview of Nam June Paik's artistic world based on accumulated research achievements. Curators from the Nam June Paik Art Center participated as authors, providing detailed descriptions of selected works along with their art historical background and significance.

Meanwhile, a memorial service will be held at Bongeunsa Temple, where Nam June Paik's remains are kept, on the 29th at 4 p.m. The memorial will be conducted in the traditional Buddhist Cheondojae ritual format, with about 100 attendees including Bongeunsa monks and devotees, Dorothy Nam, the Korean representative of Nam June Paik Studio, Baekgisa (people who honor Nam June Paik), and officials from the Nam June Paik Art Center. Since 2007, Bongeunsa Temple has held memorial services with many who honor Nam June Paik, praying for his artistic legacy to be passed down to future generations.
