Choi Young-ho Preliminary Candidate "Active Measures Needed to Prevent Infectious Disease Spread"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Choi Young-ho, a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea in Dongnam-gap, Gwangju Metropolitan City, said on the 27th, "The whole world is once again in an infectious disease emergency, and our country has seen the occurrence of the fourth confirmed case, raising great concerns," adding, "Active measures by the government and local governments are necessary to prevent the spread of Wuhan pneumonia."

Amid the spread of the infectious disease caused by the novel coronavirus originating in Wuhan, China (hereinafter referred to as Wuhan pneumonia), he stated, "Due to complex factors such as high population density centered in large cities, an increase in overseas travelers, and global warming, the risk of a pandemic is increasing. Therefore, it is important to establish systematic countermeasures and effective initial responses."

Preliminary candidate Choi Young-ho said, "I hope there will be no casualties by preventing the spread of Wuhan pneumonia through the rapid activation of infectious disease response systems by the government, local governments, and medical institutions, as well as wise responses from the public, such as voluntary reporting of respiratory suspected patients with contact history," and emphasized, "Although the situation is difficult, I hope the government will do its best to prepare safety measures for overseas Koreans, including charter flights, through active consultations with the Chinese government."

He added, "Politics must prioritize the safety and protection of the lives of the people," and requested, "The political sphere should refrain from unnecessary political strife and actively cooperate with the government's efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases."
