[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Gas Safety Corporation stated that the cause of the explosion at a pension in Donghae-si, Gangwon-do, which took the lives and caused critical injuries to a family gathering during the Lunar New Year holiday evening, is presumed to be a gas leak.
On the 26th, the Gas Safety Corporation said that the explosion accident is presumed to have occurred due to a gas leak at the 'Badabang' on the second floor of a pension in Mukhojindong, Donghae-si, Gangwon-do, around 7:45 PM on the 25th, Lunar New Year's Day.
At that time, there were two 20kg LP gas cylinders and one portable butane burner installed in Badabang.
Among the 9 casualties, 7 were family members. Of the 9 casualties, 4 died, 3 were critically injured, and 2 sustained minor injuries.
The Gas Corporation reported that from 10:30 AM that day, they have been investigating the specific cause of the gas explosion accident together with the police, the National Forensic Service, the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, and fire authorities.
