[Asia Economy Reporter Shim Nayoung] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus 'Wuhan pneumonia' has increased to four each in Singapore and Malaysia.

According to the daily Straits Times on the 26th, the Singapore Ministry of Health announced late the previous night that the fourth Wuhan pneumonia patient had been confirmed. The patient is a 36-year-old Chinese man who entered Singapore from Wuhan, China with his family on the 22nd, the Ministry of Health explained. He is currently hospitalized in an isolation room at Sengkang General Hospital and is reported to be in good condition.

It was reported that the patient did not have pneumonia symptoms when boarding the plane to Singapore. However, his cough worsened the next day, the 23rd, and after visiting the hospital emergency room the following day, he was classified as a suspected Wuhan pneumonia patient and immediately isolated. Before visiting the hospital, he stayed at a hotel. Singapore authorities are also conducting contact tracing for people who had close contact with this patient.

The Malaysian Ministry of Health also announced late the previous afternoon that an additional confirmed case of Wuhan pneumonia had occurred, bringing the total number of related patients to four. The fourth patient is a 40-year-old Chinese tourist from Wuhan who came to Johor state in southern Malaysia via Singapore on the 22nd. The mode of transportation was by bus. A health official stated, "This man currently has a fever and cough but is in stable condition."

In Thailand as well, one additional confirmed coronavirus patient was reported the previous day, increasing the total to five.
