[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] A man in his 30s who was prosecuted for wielding a weapon against an upstairs neighbor after a dispute over noise between floors was sentenced to prison.
The 1st Criminal Division of the Gunsan Branch of Jeonju District Court (Chief Judge Hae Deokjin) announced on the 25th that A (37), who was charged with attempted murder, was sentenced to four years in prison.
The court explained the sentencing by saying, "The nature of the crime is not good," but also considered "the defendant's admission and remorse, and the fact that the crime appears to have been committed impulsively due to anger caused by repeated noise between floors."
A is accused of stabbing B, a resident living upstairs, in the chest with a weapon at around 9:50 p.m. on August 25 last year in a multi-family house in Gunsan, Jeonbuk, saying, "I'll kill you and go to jail." B sustained injuries requiring four weeks of medical treatment due to A's attack.
The police, who responded to the report, arrested A at the scene.
According to the police investigation, A committed the crime after hearing his wife and B arguing over the noise issue between floors.
