[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] "Aaaaaaah!" With a scream, the game that felt like 100 minutes despite lasting only 10 minutes ended. In the end, I never even got to enter the room and met my death while trembling in fear, just searching for the key.
On the 25th, during the Lunar New Year holiday, I personally experienced Smilegate Stove's new VR game 'Hyungga 2'. 'Hyungga' is a horror experience VR game developed by AIXLAB, created sequentially based on Korea's three major haunted houses: the abandoned house in Yeongdeok, Gyeongbuk; Neulbom Garden in Jecheon, Chungbuk; and Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital in Gwangju, Gyeonggi. 'Hyungga 2' realistically recreates Neulbom Garden in Jecheon, Chungbuk in VR, featuring immersive graphics and three-dimensional sound.
The game begins from the perspective of a cameraman filming a haunted house experience VJ. The gameplay involves moving only your hands using the controller, without needing to move your body. However, as you play, you may find yourself unconsciously shrinking your body and trying to run away.
Following the game's instructions, you head toward points marked with red circles where you encounter various 'missions' to complete. It closely resembles the haunted house horror experiences celebrities undergo on variety shows during summer. Although you know it's not real, the tension of not knowing when or where something might jump out keeps sending chills down your spine and draws you deeper into the experience.
'Hyungga 2' requires you to open and enter multiple rooms yourself. To open the doors, you must find the keys directly. During this process, players face unexpected situations such as sudden hands reaching out or seeing ghosts. The ghosts' appearances are so lifelike that you can feel a heart-stopping fear. The eerie sounds coming intermittently into your ears further enhance the immersion.
There were some disappointing points as well. The game lacked sufficient explanation about the 'Hyungga 2' story. While fully immersed in the haunted house experience, the game suddenly ends with your death. Perhaps because you fail to escape the haunted house within a certain time, sometimes you die inside a room, or as in my case, the game abruptly ended without even entering the room. Nevertheless, I want to give high marks for the background, music, and horror atmosphere that made me feel as if I were really in a haunted house.
