Trump's Secret Card 'Middle East Peace Plan' to Be Unveiled Next Week?

Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, and Others Invited by the U.S.
Discussion on Middle East Peace Plan Finalized Last Year Expected
Question Remains Whether Peace with Palestine Can Be Achieved

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Middle East peace plan that U.S. President Donald Trump has been preparing for a long time is expected to be unveiled soon.

On the 23rd (local time), Mike Pence, Vice President of the United States, who is visiting Israel, announced that President Trump will invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his political rival, Benny Gantz, leader of the Blue and White Party, to the United States. The purpose of their visit is presumed to be discussions on President Trump's Middle East peace plan.

Vice President Pence stated at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, "President Trump has invited Prime Minister Netanyahu next week to discuss regional issues." He also said that Gantz was invited as well.

President Trump's Middle East peace plan was already prepared last year, but due to the political situation in Israel and other factors, specific details have not yet been disclosed. It is uncertain whether President Trump will reveal the detailed contents of the Middle East peace plan next week.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said, "I believe President Trump has prepared a plan to guarantee Israel's peace and security," adding, "I gladly accept the invitation."

The United States has been preparing a Middle East peace plan, including large-scale international investments in Palestine. However, the plan has been withheld due to concerns that its disclosure could affect Israeli elections. Israel has failed to form a government several times and is holding another general election this year.

President Trump's decision this time is interpreted as meaning that the Israeli elections will proceed as scheduled, and the peace plan will move forward independently. In particular, inviting not only Prime Minister Netanyahu but also leader Gantz is seen as a consideration of the potential impact on the Israeli elections.

However, it is questionable whether the Middle East peace plan prepared by President Trump will actually bring peace to the Middle East. Palestine has already expressed opposition to the Trump-led Middle East peace plan. President Trump has pursued a pro-Israel policy. For example, he recognized Jerusalem, which had been classified as an internationally disputed territory but is Israel's capital, as the capital of Israel.
