[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Shin-won] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon recently criticized Choi Kang-wook, Secretary for Public Office Discipline at the Blue House, who was indicted on charges of falsifying an internship certificate for the son of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk.
On the 23rd, Jin posted on his Facebook, "Choi Kang-wook, stop the disgraceful behavior and step down now," adding, "This is not a position for someone accused of forging certificates used for college admissions. Although it may seem unlikely, prove your innocence in court."
"According to the indictment, in October 2017, for the graduate school admissions of Yonsei University and Korea University by Cho’s son, Jeong Gyeong-sim asked Choi Kang-wook to issue a false internship certificate," he claimed. "Only the two of them would know the details, but the prosecution probably secured physical evidence such as emails or text messages of their conversation."
He continued, "It appears that the wording on the certificate was written by Jeong Gyeong-sim, not Choi Kang-wook," adding, "It is common sense that the wording of such certificates is usually done by a law firm, but since Jeong, as the parent, knew the specific details needed for admissions, she likely filled in the necessary content herself."
Regarding the prosecution’s evidence that Secretary Choi made a statement to the effect of 'I hope this document helps Won-i get admitted,' Jin said, "Since the prosecution has secured evidence, this is a plausible claim," emphasizing, "This proves that Choi Kang-wook knew at the time that the document would be used for admission fraud, fulfilling the requirements for obstruction of business."
He added, "More important than obstructing university admissions is that Choi Kang-wook’s actions unfairly deprived other young people who sincerely prepared for admissions of their opportunities," stating, "While verbally espousing all kinds of righteous talk, in reality, he has been committing shameless acts that steal opportunities from the powerless to help perpetuate the privileged status enjoyed by those in power. This is an unforgivable crime."
Former professor Jin also criticized, "After Minister Choo Mi-ae took office, within days the Ministry of Justice (法務部) became the Ministry of No Law (法無部)," saying, "This is a phenomenon that would only occur near the collapse of a regime, but it is already happening. People in the Moon Jae-in administration get angry when caught doing bad things. The victim is said to have punched their own face and kicked their own stomach."
