On the 23rd, the Huanggang Health Commission announced that from 0:00 on the 24th, city buses and long-distance passenger transportation in Huanggang would be temporarily suspended, and railway stations would also be temporarily closed. Movie theaters, internet cafes, tourist and entertainment venues within Huanggang City will be temporarily closed, and the central market will be inaccessible.
The health authorities requested citizens to refrain from leaving the area and to minimize movement. They stated that checkpoints would be set up at city entrances and exits to inspect vehicles and check the body temperatures of people entering and leaving the city to prevent further spread. Additionally, patients with high fever will be sent to designated hospitals for further examination and treatment, and animals transported in vehicles entering Huanggang will also be inspected and regulated.
Huanggang is a neighboring city located east of Wuhan, where the novel coronavirus infection originated. The Huanggang Health Commission explained the reason for these measures as "to fully commit to the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus infection, efficiently block the virus transmission routes, firmly curb the spread, and ensure life safety and health."
Earlier, the Wuhan Novel Coronavirus Control and Response Emergency Center announced that from 10 a.m. on the same day, all public transportation within the city would be completely suspended. According to the related announcement, city buses, subways, ferries, as well as long-distance public transportation routes connecting to external cities were temporarily suspended. Wuhan Airport and train stations were also temporarily closed.
