[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Mokpo City announced on the 23rd that the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency raised the infectious disease crisis alert level from ‘Interest’ to ‘Caution’ on the 20th, following the confirmation of a confirmed case of Wuhan pneumonia in China and human-to-human transmission in Korea, and has begun full-scale monitoring and response.
Mokpo City is operating a 24-hour emergency quarantine task force to prepare for community patient surveillance and contact management, and plans to establish a surveillance hotline and conduct emergency duty with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, Jeollanam-do Province, and medical institutions during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
Medical institutions are strengthening screening and infection control within hospitals by confirming travel history through the ‘Visit Patient Travel History Confirmation System (DUR)’ and operating a 24-hour hotline with public health centers. In addition, six hospitals in the Mokpo area (Korea, Gidok, Jungang, Sean, City Medical Center, Jeonnam Jungang) plan to operate screening clinics.
In particular, citizens who have visited Wuhan City, China, or returned after staying in Hong Kong and show suspected respiratory symptoms such as fever or cough within 14 days must report to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency call center (1339) or Mokpo City Public Health Center.
A representative of the Mokpo City Public Health Center emphasized, “We ask citizens to actively cooperate in preventing infectious diseases by frequently washing hands, observing cough etiquette, wearing masks when visiting medical institutions, and informing medical staff of overseas travel history.”
