Cheonghae Unit Deployed to Hormuz... 'Well Done' 51.9% vs 'Wrong' 33.1%

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A public opinion poll revealed that more than half of the population positively evaluates the government's decision to dispatch the Cheonghae Unit to the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Realmeter's survey commissioned by tbs on the 22nd, 51.9% of respondents said the dispatch of the Cheonghae Unit was a "good decision," announced on the 23rd. On the other hand, 33.1% said it was a "wrong decision." Those who were unsure or did not respond accounted for 15.0%.

This contrasts with the results of a survey conducted by Realmeter on January 10th, commissioned by YTN, which surveyed 502 adults nationwide aged 19 and older regarding the U.S.-requested dispatch to Hormuz (with a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of ±4.4 percentage points). At that time, opposition was 48.4%, higher than support at 40.3%.

In this recent survey, positive evaluations of the dispatch were a majority in Seoul (57.8%), Gyeonggi·Incheon (56.2%), Gwangju·Jeolla (53.8%), among those aged 60 and older (54.8%) and in their 40s (53.9%), as well as among progressives (69.0%) and supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea (77.2%). Conversely, negative evaluations were high among supporters of the Liberty Korea Party (61.0%).

In regions such as Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (good decision 43.6% vs. wrong decision 41.0%), Daegu·Gyeongbuk (41.9% vs. 49.9%), and among conservatives (44.1% vs. 47.8%), positive and negative evaluations were closely balanced.

This survey contacted 12,788 adults aged 18 and older nationwide, with a final response of 501 people, recording a response rate of 3.9%, and a margin of error of ±4.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
