Gyeonggi-do Offers Up to 50 Million KRW Reward for Reporting Childcare Center Fraud

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will provide rewards of up to 50 million won for reporting fraudulent activities at daycare centers.

On the 23rd, Gyeonggi Province announced that, together with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and 31 cities and counties, it will support rewards for public interest reports to prevent and eradicate fraudulent activities at daycare centers.

The targets for public interest reporting include cases where daycare centers in the province receive subsidies through false or fraudulent means or misuse subsidies, or where childcare staff intentionally or through gross negligence inflict physical, mental, or sexual violence or abuse that hinders the normal development of infants and young children.

As of January 2 this year, there are 11,305 daycare centers in the province.

Reports of illegal activities can be made to the childcare departments of the 31 respective cities and counties, the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Daycare Use and Fraud Reporting Center (www.childcare.go.rk), the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission website, or by calling 110 or 1398 without an area code.

Rewards for public interest reporters regarding daycare centers will be paid between 500,000 and 50 million won after fact verification, according to the "Standards for Rewarding Public Interest Reporters on Daycare Centers."

Nam Sang-deok, head of the Childcare Policy Division of the province, emphasized, "Public interest reporters are protected under Article 42-2 of the Infant Care Act, and we will strive to enhance transparency in daycare centers through the activation of public interest reporting."
