Hampyeong-gun Selects ‘Sindongjin’ and ‘Saechungmu’ as 2021 Public Grain Reserve Rice Varieties

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Acting Governor Na Yunsu) announced on the 22nd that it held a consultation meeting on the selection of purchase varieties for the '2021 Public Stockpiled Rice' on the 21st and selected two varieties, 'Sindongjin' and 'Saechungmu', as the purchase varieties.

At the consultation meeting for selecting purchase varieties attended by Hampyeong-gun Integrated RPC, representatives of farmer organizations, representatives of rice producer groups, and officials from the Nonghyup, the final purchase varieties were decided by comprehensively reviewing the results of a preliminary preference survey conducted in 9 towns and townships, farmers' competitiveness, and production conditions.

In particular, since both varieties selected this time are mid-late maturing types mainly cultivated in the southern plain areas, it appears that the suitability to regional production conditions was the most significant consideration.

An official from the county stated, "The selection of purchase varieties this time aimed to enhance the brand value of Hampyeong rice by reflecting the opinions of producers and consumer preferences as much as possible," and added, "We will actively promote the selection results to ensure there are no disruptions in securing and distributing seeds for farmers, as well as to prevent confusion among rice-producing farmers and organizations."
