Delivery of 300 Books by Cultural Sports and Tourism-Oriented Preliminary Social Enterprise 'Chaekmunhwa Network'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The 'Chaeksure Volunteer Group,' composed of librarians from the National Library of Korea, and the Book Culture Network, which publishes the Publishing Journal, visited the Military Correctional Institution in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, on the 22nd and donated 300 books.
The Chaeksure Volunteer Group has been operating since 2009, mainly consisting of librarians. In addition to donating books, they volunteer by visiting places that need help with library operations such as material management. In 2018, they donated books to Yanbian University of Science and Technology, and in 2019, to the Hansen's Disease Museum at the National Sorokdo Hospital.
Chairperson Bok Nam-seon of the Chaeksure Volunteer Group said, "This year as well, we plan to focus on winning the hearts of individuals through books," adding, "We will break down prejudices and biases and pay closer attention to marginalized and hard-to-reach places."
The National Library of Korea's Chaeksure Volunteer Group is recruiting volunteer organizations via email (booksure@mail.nl.go.kr). Eligible recipients include welfare facilities, small libraries, and apartment book corners.
Meanwhile, the Military Correctional Institution is the only correctional facility for the military, providing correctional education to about 100 military trainees.
