[Asia Economy (Namyangju) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kyungbok University recorded the highest employment rate among universities in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Kyungbok University announced on the 22nd that it achieved an employment rate of 78.2% in the recent "2018 Higher Education Institution Graduate Employment Statistics Survey" released by the Ministry of Education, making it the university with the highest employment rate among metropolitan universities with over 2,000 graduates.
This figure surpasses Sungkyunkwan University’s 77%, which had the highest employment rate among general universities nationwide with over 2,000 graduates. Additionally, Kyungbok University ranked second among nationwide junior colleges, following Yeungjin College (81.3%).
In this survey, the average employment rate for junior colleges was 71.1%, up 1.3 percentage points from the previous year, and for general universities, it was 64.2%, up 1.6 percentage points. Kyungbok University’s employment rate increased by 2.7 percentage points compared to the previous year, exceeding the average.
This survey was based on a full census using public databases from the National Health Insurance Service, National Tax Service, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Military Manpower Administration, and Human Resources Development Service of Korea.
Kyungbok University’s soaring employment rate is attributed to its unique achievement of establishing 7,200 industry-academia cooperation agreements for 100% employment-guaranteed departments, operating customized departments responding to social demand, and strengthening employment and job competencies through the Junior College Innovation Support Project and University Job Center Project. These efforts have resulted in tailored talent development that increasingly satisfies both companies and students over time.
Ham Do-hoon, Director of the Employment Office at Kyungbok University, stated, "This achievement was made possible by the efforts of faculty and staff who worked hard to achieve a high employment rate for three consecutive years through employment innovation despite the increasingly difficult youth employment situation." He added, "We will strive to discover quality employment opportunities beyond just quantitative employment."
