[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seong-yeol] An octogenarian lung cancer patient committed self-harm with a sharp weapon in the hospital intensive care unit and took his own life.


Daegu Jungbu Police Station announced on the 22nd that at around 4:50 p.m. on the 21st, patient A (80) died after self-harming with a sharp weapon in the intensive care unit of a secondary general hospital in Jung-gu, Daegu.


Witnesses reported that he did not stop self-harming, telling those who tried to stop him, "Step back. Do not come closer."


When hospital staff arrived at the intensive care unit, A was already deceased. No suicide note was found.


A, who lived alone, was recently diagnosed with a severe lung disease and was reportedly discouraged, but had not caused any problems previously.
