[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 22nd, the Alternative New Party criticized Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, for saying at the New Year's press conference that "if a decisive judgment is not made against the Moon Jae-in administration, the Republic of Korea will receive a definite death sentence," calling it "not a criticism of the administration but a de facto threat to the people."

Jang Jeong-sook, chief spokesperson of the Alternative New Party, said in a statement that day, "The country will not collapse from just one election, and there are no people who would take such threats at face value."

Chief Spokesperson Jang added, "This is merely ignorance that denies the reason for the existence and responsibility of the opposition party in a democratic political structure," and said, "Even if they lose an election, it is normal to say that they will continue to care for the people's livelihood through the role of a healthy opposition party. We hope they stop the low-level behavior of trying to gain political advantage by making the people anxious."

Chief Spokesperson Jang also said, "As always, Representative Hwang's extreme remarks confirm the endless decline of Korean conservative politics," and added, "We hope he first develops the discernment to distinguish between criticism and curses, and immediately withdraws the reckless plan to create satellite parties to nullify the legal spirit chosen by the people."
