Philip Morris International Surveyed 17,251 Adults
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] A survey has revealed that high levels of transparency, objective and scientific review, and open discussion are necessary for the proper regulation of electronic cigarettes and non-combustible products.
Philip Morris International (PMI) announced on the 22nd that it unveiled the white paper titled "Unsmoke Your Mind: Questions and Practical Approaches for a Smoke-Free Future" at a press briefing held the previous day in Davos, Switzerland.
The survey, conducted by the polling agency Povada, targeted 17,251 adults across 14 countries. It included questions about regulation, science, and the corporate environment.
Among the respondents, 9 out of 10 (87%) answered that "governments, regulatory authorities, and public health agencies should consider scientific facts about electronic cigarettes and non-combustible products when introducing regulations." Additionally, 89% of all respondents said, "Manufacturers should conduct thorough scientific verification of products before launching electronic cigarettes and non-combustible products."
Jacek Olczak, PMI's Chief Operating Officer, explained, "Non-combustible products offer a practical solution for improving public health," adding, "The results of this survey demonstrate how important transparent disclosure of scientific research findings is." He emphasized, "Making decisions based on science and facts is even more crucial when trust in governments and organizations is low," and stated, "We must transparently share scientific research results with governments, regulatory authorities, scientists, academia, and the general public."
In addition, the Unsmoke Your Mind white paper includes topics such as ▲how much society cares about smokers, ▲whether consumers trust scientific evidence, ▲how trust or distrust affects consumers' attitudes toward smoke-free alternatives, ▲whether innovative products are truly better substitutes for conventional cigarettes, ▲and whether a genuine alternative exists for the 7.8 billion people on Earth.
