[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 21st that during the special transportation measures period for the Lunar New Year holiday (23rd to 27th, 5 days) this year, an average of 207,829 passengers per day are expected to use Incheon International Airport. This figure represents an increase of about 2.8% compared to the average daily passengers of 202,085 during last year's Lunar New Year holiday period (1st to 7th, 7 days).
According to the corporation, the day with the highest number of users during the holiday period is expected to be the 24th, with 223,157 passengers using Incheon Airport. The day with the highest number of departing passengers is also predicted to be the 24th (111,152 passengers), while the day with the highest number of arriving passengers is expected to be the 27th (114,123 passengers). By terminal, Terminal 1 is estimated to handle an average of 150,412 passengers per day, and Terminal 2 an average of 57,417 passengers per day.
During this special measures period, the corporation will operate additional security screening lanes at Terminal 1 and extend the operating hours of Departure Hall 2 by 30 minutes compared to before to alleviate passenger congestion. Additionally, for the airport railroad, temporary trains will be deployed on the 25th and 26th, and the last train operation sections will be extended as part of transportation measures.
Meanwhile, as confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, referred to as 'Wuhan pneumonia,' have occurred domestically, the corporation has strengthened quarantine measures by conducting thorough disinfection mainly in multi-passenger facilities within the airport. The corporation plans to continue cooperating with related organizations such as the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to respond accordingly.
President Koo Bon-hwan said, "The corporation is fully prepared by operating a special transportation countermeasures headquarters to ensure that passengers can use Incheon Airport safely and conveniently during the Lunar New Year holiday period," adding, "Since many passengers use Incheon Airport, we recommend actively using public transportation and various smart services to use the airport faster and more comfortably."
