Im Gwang-moon, New Chief of Gwangju Seobu Police Station, "Will Build a Police Force with Dignity, Humility, and Confidence"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] “We will create a Western Police Department with dignity, humility, and confidence.”

Im Gwangmun, the 43rd newly appointed chief of the Gwangju Western Police Station, stated this at the inauguration ceremony held on the 20th, saying, “The police are the citizens, and the citizens are the police.”

Chief Im said, “Over the past five years, among the five stations under the Gwangju Police Agency, we have achieved the best results in the comprehensive security performance evaluation, and last year we ranked first in the comprehensive security performance evaluation of the Gwangju Police Agency, showing remarkable achievements. I thank all the Western Police Station staff for their hard work, as this is the result of everyone taking pride and doing their best day and night.”

He continued, “In the eyes of the public, there is no distinction between investigative police and non-investigative police; they are all the same police. Each and every one of you represents the police,” emphasizing, “At this moment, I envision an ideal Western Police Department that enhances investigative capabilities and strengthens public safety capabilities to become a democratic police force trusted by the people.”

Chief Im made three requests.

First, a ‘Dignified Western Police Department.’

He emphasized, “We must remember the simple fact that being faithful to the basics and principles and that the dignity of police officers comes from fair and transparent law enforcement. We should always live with an awareness of whether there are residents suffering from crime threats and what the vulnerabilities to crime are.”

Second, a ‘Humble Western Police Department.’

He said, “If we listen to the daily needs and concerns of residents and serve them kindly with sincere devotion, and protect the people safely from various crimes and threats, we will earn the trust and love of the public. Politeness, such as bowing first when greeting and consideration for others, will be the foundation that leads to harmony.”

The third, as revealed by Chief Im, is a ‘Proud Western Police Department.’

Chief Im stated, “We must not lose our pride by making momentary wrong judgments or mistakes that bring shame to the organization and the public. We should never forget our mission to protect a healthy society and always renew our sense of pride and calling.”

Meanwhile, Chief Im, a graduate of the 4th class of the Korean National Police University, has served as chief of Gangjin Police Station in Jeonnam, head of the investigation division at Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, chief of Mokpo Police Station in Jeonnam, chief of Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju, and head of the investigation division at Gwangju Provincial Police Agency.
