Mandatory Installation of 'Anti-Slip Facilities' in Parking Lots... Local Governments Strengthen Safety Management

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] From now on, slip prevention facilities and slip caution signs will be mandatory in sloped parking lots. In addition, local governments must investigate the safety management status of parking lots every three years.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that it will give prior notice of the amendment to the Parking Lot Act Enforcement Rules, which includes these contents, until March 2.

According to the amendment, mayors, county governors, and district heads must conduct safety management status investigations of parking lots every three years, including compliance with the structure, facilities, and safety standards of parking lots, and whether safety facilities are established in sloped parking lots.

In the case of sloped parking lots, parking lot managers are required to install slip prevention facilities, and slip caution signs indicating sloped parking lot markings, parking methods, and wheel chocks fixation must be provided.

Large parking lots with more than 400 parking spaces must install pedestrian safety facilities such as speed bumps and vehicle stop lines to protect pedestrians.

Mayors, county governors, and district heads must conduct guidance inspections at least once a year regarding the installation of slip prevention facilities and slip caution signs in sloped parking lots, as well as the installation of pedestrian safety facilities in large parking lots.

The amendment to the enforcement rules can be found on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport website, and if there are any opinions on the amendment, they can be submitted by mail, fax, or through the website by March 2.
