[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] With confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, known domestically as 'Wuhan Pneumonia,' emerging in South Korea, health management alarms have been raised. Especially with the Lunar New Year holidays approaching and a surge in domestic and international travelers, a state of alert must be maintained.

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the 21st, pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus currently has no vaccine or specific treatment like MERS or SARS. Therefore, symptomatic treatment is administered, where clinicians decide based on the patient's condition to provide antiviral drugs to help withstand the virus attack or antibiotics to prevent secondary infections.

Because of this, special attention must be paid to prevention. First, when visiting Wuhan, avoid contact with local wild animals and poultry, and refrain from visiting markets and medical facilities where infection risk is present. Also, avoid contact with people showing respiratory symptoms such as fever or difficulty breathing.

If respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath are present upon entry, report to quarantine officers. If related symptoms appear within 14 days after returning, consult the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention call center (1399) or a public health center.

Wash hands thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 30 seconds. If respiratory symptoms such as coughing occur, cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve and wear a mask when going outside. Also, when visiting medical institutions after overseas travel, inform medical staff of your travel history.
