[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 21st that it will recruit a total of about 300 students on a first-come, first-served basis to participate in the 2020 first half 'Traditional Food Course,' 'Gwangju Representative Food Course,' and 'Food Culture Program' until the 29th of next month.
These three courses will be operated once a week from March to June, over a 15-week period.
First, the traditional food field consists of five courses: ▲Fermented and preserved foods ▲Local foods ▲Rice cakes and Korean sweets ▲Intangible cultural heritage inherited foods ▲Everyday cooking, and will be conducted as practice-oriented lectures on local native foods, Korean cuisine, and inherited foods that are not usually learned.
The instructors include Lee Aeseop and Min Kyungsuk, holders of Gwangju City Intangible Cultural Property No. 17, Namdo Ritual Food Masters.
The newly established Gwangju Representative Food Course this year consists of two courses: ▲Gwangju Seasonal Korean Table Setting ▲Gwangju Representative Food Food Styling, where participants will learn how to make side dishes that are the basis of Korean full-course meals and have time to do food styling with the dishes they made themselves.
In particular, the Food Culture Course held in the newly prepared Food Culture Program Room on the first floor of the Namdo Local Food Museum consists of five courses: ▲Poetry and Food ▲Songs and Food ▲Trees and Food ▲Tea and Food ▲Flowers and Food, integrating literature, art, and music with food, providing an opportunity to understand the local food culture more easily and broadly through play and experience.
Additionally, the 'Weekend Everyday Cooking Course' for busy office workers and housewives offers lessons on how to make well-being foods, Korean dishes, and side dishes.
The tuition fee for the Traditional Food and Gwangju Representative Food courses is 120,000 won (materials fee separate), the Food Culture Program is free, and for course applications, number of students per course, and other detailed information, inquiries can be made to the Namdo Local Food Museum.
District Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu said, "This course will be a good opportunity for local residents to learn about Namdo's traditional foods and Gwangju representative foods," and added, "We will continue to operate various programs including traditional food courses to widely promote the excellence of local foods and to inherit and develop the taste of Namdo."
