Support of 200,000 KRW for winter uniforms in February and April, and 100,000 KRW for summer uniforms, totaling 300,000 KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced on the 21st that starting this year, it will provide school uniform expenses to children of low-income single-parent families who are entering middle and high school as new students.
Currently, Seoul City supports school uniform expenses for existing livelihood and medical benefit recipients as well as low-income veterans.
However, low-income single-parent families classified as legally near-poverty class are excluded from this support.
Accordingly, the district established the legal basis for support by enacting the "Ordinance on Support for Single-Parent Families in Gangseo-gu, Seoul" in May last year to assist with educational expenses for single-parent families.
From now on, if a new middle or high school student child of a low-income single-parent family resides in the district, the local community center will identify eligible recipients without a separate application process and provide school uniform expenses.
In February and April, a total of 300,000 KRW will be provided uniformly regardless of uniform wear, with 200,000 KRW for winter uniforms and 100,000 KRW for summer uniforms.
Currently, there are 1,321 low-income single-parent households in Gangseo-gu, and it is expected that about 220 students will receive school uniform support.
Mayor Noh Hyun-song of Gangseo-gu said, "I hope this will be of some help to single-parent families with new students this year," and added, "We will continue to carry out various support projects to stabilize the lives of single-parent families."
