[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Pharmaceutical stocks surged following news of a confirmed case of Wuhan pneumonia in South Korea.
As of 2:55 PM on the 20th, Jinwon Life Science was trading at 3,155 KRW on the KOSPI market, up 29.84% from the previous trading day. International Pharmaceuticals, Kyungbo Pharmaceutical, and Samjin Pharmaceutical also rose by 10.82%, 8.11%, and 5.58%, respectively.
On the KOSDAQ market, Korea Pharmaceutical traded at 10,250 KRW, up 29.75%, while pharmaceutical stocks such as Jinyang Pharmaceutical (23.76%), Shinil Pharmaceutical (17.07%), and Jeil Bio (14.57%) showed strong performance.
On the same day, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that a Chinese national woman who entered Incheon Airport from Wuhan, China on the 19th was infected with the novel coronavirus, known as Wuhan pneumonia.
Following the confirmed case in South Korea, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention raised the infectious disease crisis alert level from 'Interest' to 'Caution'.
