[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] A man in his 40s who assaulted a taxi driver over high taxi fares was arrested by the police.
On the 20th, the Gwangju Western Police Station stated that they have apprehended and are investigating A (40) on charges of assault for using violence against a taxi driver after a fare dispute.
A is accused of scratching the neck of taxi driver B (48) in front of a one-room apartment in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, at around 7:50 a.m. on the 19th.
According to the police investigation, A boarded B’s taxi and, upon arriving at the destination, questioned B, saying, "Did you deliberately take a longer route to increase the fare?" during which the incident occurred.
A reportedly denies the charges, claiming it was merely a verbal argument.
The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances involving both A and B.
