Seongbuk-gu Samseon Silver Welfare Center Hosts Happy Lunar New Year Sharing Event for Seniors

Elders Gathered Together to Add Meaning of Neighborly Love During the Holiday...Breathing New Life into the Daily Lives of Elders Who Had Been Huddled All Winter

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced that on the 16th, ahead of Seollal, the traditional Korean Lunar New Year, over 60 senior members of the Samseon Silver Welfare Center gathered to share warmth and fellowship.

At the event, traditional holiday games such as recreation activities, Yutnori, and Tuho were held under the guidance of dance instructor Noh Hyun-tae (known as the Poet of the Streets) from the Silver Doll Dance Class.

For the celebratory performances, singer Yoon Seo-jung (mother of singer Kim Junsu) and trot singer Lee Do-jin, a contestant from Miss Trot, delighted the audience with their performances.

Especially, this event held great significance as it strengthened the spirits of seniors facing the Lunar New Year alone. Despite the below-freezing temperatures, participants exchanged warm wishes and smiles, embracing the holiday spirit.

A district official stated, “The Samseon Silver Welfare Center is responsible for providing various leisure programs for seniors’ free time. Last year, the Silver Doll Dance & Stretching Class was very popular, and we have newly opened an advanced class. In addition to hobby support classes such as calligraphy, world famous painting coloring, and handbell ensemble, we also plan to operate new social participation programs like volunteer groups,” encouraging seniors to take advantage of these offerings.

They also added, “We will strive to increase the happiness index of seniors by expanding elderly leisure welfare facilities and reinforcing staffing.”
