Yeongdeungpo-gu, Lunar New Year Price Stabilization and Livestock Product Hygiene Inspection

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) has launched a special price stabilization and livestock product hygiene inspection from the 6th through the 28th, including the holiday period, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.

The district selected 22 key items for holiday management, including agricultural, marine, and livestock products as well as personal service fees. Price monitoring personnel and responsible officials conduct on-site visits to individual businesses to closely investigate price trends.

In addition, the district continuously monitors and inspects unfair trade practices such as overcharging, hoarding, and price collusion at traditional markets, small and medium-sized stores, and large supermarkets.

Furthermore, ahead of the Lunar New Year when consumption of livestock products for gifts and ritual supplies surges, the district conducts preemptive intensive crackdowns and on-site inspections of livestock products sold within the area.

The main inspection items include △proper indication of origin △acts of origin forgery △sale of expired products △compliance with packaging and distribution △adherence to the livestock product traceability system △proper hygiene management of livestock product handlers. Violating businesses will face administrative sanctions such as fines and criminal charges.

Moreover, the district is striving to enhance transparency in distribution through promotion and guidance of the livestock product traceability system, as well as to prevent the sale of fraudulent or substandard livestock products.

In particular, businesses suspected of false labeling of livestock product grades or origin are subject to focused inspections through “mystery shopping” to ensure transparency in crackdowns.

Additionally, the district plans to announce major price trends of essential daily goods weekly on its website and conduct measuring instrument inspections to stabilize prices and ensure safe supply of livestock products during the Lunar New Year holiday.

District Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, “We will do our best to stabilize holiday prices and manage livestock product hygiene so that residents can prepare a rich and safe Lunar New Year table with reasonably priced, safe food.” Job and Economy Division (☎2670-3418)
