Disney to Remove '20th Century Fox' Name... Renaming to '20th Century Studios'

The name of '20th Century Fox,' acquired by Disney last year, will be changed to '20th Century Studios.' According to the American weekly magazine Variety on the 17th (local time), Disney decided on this change because the name 20th Century Fox could be mistaken as belonging to Fox Corp, the former parent company before the acquisition and merger. It is also reported that the name of another subsidiary, 'Fox Searchlight Pictures,' will be changed to 'Searchlight Pictures.' However, the name changes for the TV production companies '20th Century Fox Television' and 'Fox 21 Television Studios' have been postponed to a later time.

This decision is understood to have been influenced by Fox's conservative image, including Fox News. Fox is a media group owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch. One of its core companies, Fox News Channel, is favored by U.S. President Donald Trump, who considers it an ally. Disney acquired and merged Fox's entertainment business, valued at approximately 81 trillion won, in April last year.
