[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] Japanese billionaire Maezawa Yusaku (44, 前澤友作) has announced a recruitment for a woman to accompany him on his lunar exploration, and it is reported that more than 20,000 applicants have applied so far.
According to 'CBS News' on the 17th, as of the morning when the application deadline closed, 27,722 people worldwide had applied for the announcement.
Earlier, Mr. Maezawa posted this announcement on his official website on the 12th. The target is unmarried women aged 20 or older with a bright and positive personality, who must be interested in space travel and wish for world peace, among other partner conditions.
He explained, "I am 44 years old and starting my life over," adding, "Loneliness and emptiness gradually came over me, and I thought about loving one woman continuously. I want to find a life partner."
Mr. Maezawa is the founder of Japan's largest online shopping mall, 'ZOZOTOWN.' He is known to have assets worth approximately $3 billion (about 3.4 trillion KRW).
He is also known for his 'eccentric actions.' Last month, he revealed a plan to distribute 1 billion yen to 1,000 people to study the effect of money on happiness, and in November last year, he publicly showed a bankbook containing 100 billion yen (about 1 trillion KRW) on YouTube.
Previously, he was selected as the main figure in the private lunar exploration project by SpaceX, the space exploration company founded by American billionaire Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla.
The manned spacecraft to be used in this project is scheduled to launch in 2023, featuring a large rocket 118 meters long equipped with reusable booster rockets.
Additionally, Mr. Maezawa plans to accompany up to eight artists on this exploration project.
