Mayor Oh Keo-don, "Reverification of Gimhae New Airport, Deliver Results Before the General Election Next Month"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Mayor Oh Keo-don of Busan expressed his personal stance on the Southeast region gateway airport.

On the morning of the 17th, Mayor Oh appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and demanded, "Last month, the Gimhae New Airport Verification Committee was launched and verification is underway, but it is necessary to clearly establish the principle of requesting a fair verification and a swift decision."

He continued, "The core of the ongoing verification of the Gimhae New Airport is meaningful in correcting the wrong political decisions made at that time."

When asked about his thoughts on Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun's inauguration, he expressed expectations, saying, "Prime Minister Chung said during the recent confirmation hearing that 'there should be a proper international airport in the Southeast region.'"

Regarding the problems of the Gimhae New Airport, he emphasized, "Everything, including noise area expansion and environmental issues, is problematic, and rather than forcibly pushing an airport with many problems, choosing a third location without issues is necessary to start a new discussion."

Mayor Oh also raised his voice, saying, "Is it because of the mindset of 'let's do it since it was decided once'? Are there only one or two wrong decisions made in the past?"

In response to a question about former Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Yoo Jae-soo, he expressed regret, saying, "At that time, all necessary procedures such as background checks were completed, but ultimately, I feel very sorry to the citizens."
