Gangdong-gu, Operation of Direct Market for Lunar New Year Holiday


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will operate a sister city direct transaction market at the open yard of the district office from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 20th and 21st in celebration of the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Rat.


At this direct transaction market, 33 excellent companies recommended by 15 cities and counties that have sister city relationships with Gangdong-gu will showcase local specialties from ▲ Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do ▲ Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do ▲ Cheongyang-gun, Eumseong-gun, Buyeo-gun, Jincheon-gun, Nonsan-si in Chungcheong-do ▲ Wando-gun, Gokseong-gun, Jinan-gun, Yeonggwang-gun in Jeolla-do, and ▲ Yeongyang-gun, Bonghwa-gun, Geochang-gun, Sangju-si in Gyeongsang-do.


Visitors can find about 150 types of high-quality local specialties directly produced by farmers from all over the country at affordable prices, including fruits such as apples, pears, and dried persimmons; agricultural products such as mushrooms, garlic, and balloon flower roots; dried seafood such as dried shrimp, kelp, and dried yellow corvina; seasonings such as red pepper powder, soybean paste, and soy sauce; and health foods such as honey and omija extract.


The district operates the sister city direct transaction market every year during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays. This is to provide residents with fresh and high-quality local specialties at reasonable prices and to support new sales channels and income increases for farmers in sister cities.


Additionally, a portion of the sales proceeds from this direct transaction market will be donated to the Community Chest of Korea to help more residents spend a warm Lunar New Year holiday.


District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon said, “I hope all residents prepare fresh food at affordable prices at this direct transaction market held with our sister cities and have a healthy and happy Lunar New Year holiday. This year as well, we will carefully look after the community to create a happy Gangdong where no neighbors are left behind.”
