[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Korea Institute of Design Promotion announced on the 16th the official opening of the 'Design Korea Museum,' where visitors can explore domestic modern and contemporary design materials by era.
The museum exhibits 1,600 carefully selected items of high historical value and rarity. These design materials were collected with great dedication over more than 30 years by Park Amjong, director of the Design Korea Museum and professor of visual design at Sunmoon University.
The collection is divided into seven sections spanning from the Enlightenment Period to the early 2000s: ▲Emergence Period (1876?1909) ▲Stagnation Period (1910?1944) ▲Germination Period (1945?1960) ▲Early Period (1961?1975) ▲Development Period (1976?1988) ▲Maturity Period (from 2000), allowing visitors to observe the flow of the times in one place.
Exhibits include official records containing the original form of the Taegeukgi (Korean national flag), Korea's first modern newspaper 'Hansung Sunbo,' the country's first trademark-registered cosmetic product 'Bakgabun,' and rare rubber shoes registration certificates. Additionally, various design materials such as the Korean typewriter, which was first attempted and introduced domestically, and Korea's first home appliances are also on display.
The Korea Institute of Design Promotion plans to actively present various contents that can promote the value of Korean design alongside the Design Korea Museum.
Director Park Amjong said, "As the history of Korean design promotion reaches 50 years, I hope the Design Korea Museum will serve as a platform that connects Korea's history, tradition, and modernity while widely promoting the value of our design."
